The Swim: Each swim is done in triangular counter-clockwise fashion.  Athletes will be lined up on the edge of Cape Meares Lake. Long course triathletes will start/end at the Cape Meares Lake boat ramp, while all sprint/super sprint races will start about 1/2 way down Bayocean Dike Rd. towards the Bayocean Peninsula Park parking lot.

Relay Teams: Male, Female, Co-ed (any combination of mixed gender).  Relay teams of 2 or 3 persons can compete in all course races.

The Bike:  Long course triathletes will make a loop from the start of Bayshore Drive, adjacent to the start/finish of the swim, up to the Cape Meares Lighthouse onto Hwy 131 through Oceanside and Netarts, and then finish the loop along the Tillamook Bay on Bayocean Rd. Northwest.  Bayshore Drive is permantly closed due to road settling, but because these first two miles are uphill, the speed of bikes will be slow enough a little rough payment will not be a problem.

All sprint, super sprint, and duathlon participants will be biking on the spit.  The surface is made up of mostly an 8′ gravel road.  There are a few soft sandy spots and a short section of a single lane trail (about 200 meters).  We recommend gravel, cross, or mountain bikes for these off-road courses.

The Run:  The long course run was designed to challenge even the best runners.  It starts at the base of Bayshore Drive, adjacent to the start/finish of both the swim and the bike.  This out and back course travels 2 miles uphill to the edge of Cape Meares Lighthouse State Park–about 800 total feet of climb– turns back around down past the start of the run, and continue onto Bayocean Dike Rd. and finishes at the the parking lot of Bayocean Peninsula Park.  Run #1 of the duathlon will be on this course as well.

The sprint and super sprint runs will be a trail race starting at the finish of the swim along Bayocean Dike Rd. traversing onto a sandly trail which leads to the beach.  Run along the beach for about a mile and then take another trail which loops back to the finish line.

What to Bring

Swim: Please feel free to bring a wet-suit. They are not required, but are absolutely welcomes. You will also need to bring your own goggles. We will provide you with a swim cap.

Bike: You will need a cyclo-cross or mountain bike to deal with the rough and sandy terrain. A helmet will be required to be worn at all times.

Run: You must be wearing your bib number when you finish. Whether you want to attach it to a singlet, shirt or your chest (ouch, and definitely not recommended), it’s up to you!

Awards and After Party

Awards will take place at the Hydrangea Ranch across town. There will be food, drink and music. Those that want to stay the night and camp can do so at the ranch for a modest fee. There are hot showers available and we do recommend that you bring your own camping gear.

Awards will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places individual finishers and relay teams. Awards will be held at the parking lot immediately following the race.
